I bought me a set of these to use on an old Ludwig classic Acrolite snare I bought back in 1988. These new wires not only have helped to bring it back to life, but they simply make the drum sparkle with sound! Aside from the way they look physically, these snare wires have the exact same sound as my drum's original 12-strand set did - bright and crisp.
I haven't been able to play my old Ludwig snare in years, due to the fact that in 1993 the lugs began popping loose from the shell and I was not able to find Ludwig OEM replacements. As a result, my Acrolite snare spent most of its life - 19 years, to be exact - in storage until recently, when I was able to locate a lot of used but exact-replacement lugs on eBay. If not for finding those on eBay, my drum would still be packed away right now!
Because of how nice they look and sound, I may get myself another set of these wires to use on the wood snare I'm planning to custom build later on - from parts gathered up and bought from here at DFD. However, unlike the Acrolite, my much deeper wood snare will have a low-to-mid range tuned pitch, so that I could use it on songs that require that low-tuned sound - such as "Faithfully" by Journey or perhaps "The Heart of Rock & Roll" by Huey Lewis & the News.
