I recently purchased a 14-8 and installed it on a 6x14 maple snare, replacing a die cast hoop with the 3.0mm. All I can say is WOW! The drum retained the "thick" die cast tone, but sounds more "open" at the same time. Can't wait to try a 3.0 on my 7x13.
