Gretsch Style Single Ended Bass Drum Lug, Chrome, Brass Or Black

Actually these are my new favorite die cast lug. There are some really nice billet and machined aluminum lugs out there but for a die cast low mass lug these get it all right.
First off they look great. Not only do they have a nice style, which don't scream cheap like some lugs, they also have a great finish. Another lug I like a lot is one made by Cannon Percussion and a very similar one by Mighty Mite. Though I like the style a lot, which is like a vintage Tama lug, the finish on them is not very nice. Those lugs have a pretty rough surface. This lug doesn't have that problem. The surface is nice and smooth as is the chrome finish. Once on the drum they have a very nice stylish look. Not boring, but not over done either.
If I had any complaint at all it is that that inserts are held in with a spring. This is common on many lugs out there. The problem is that as delivered the spring vibrates imparting at least some sound into the drum. Is it enough to make a difference? I cannot say for certain, but I am concerned enough that I wrap each spring with a strip of foam. This damps any vibration the spring has. It's a simple enough process but time consuming. Some lugs have just a plastic retainer you slide in and out to retain the insert.
One reason for the spring may be to keep the price down. And that is the best part of this lug. It is very affordable! I bought this lug based on the fact that I think it is the best looking lug in the $2 price range. To be honest had it of been more I wouldn't have bought it, but I still like it the most of all the die cast lugs out there. For $2 each they also come with very nice gaskets and mounting screws.
I highly recommend these lugs for all but the most high end drum projects!
